Just how important is sleep?
If you have difficulty getting to sleep, wake during the night and can’t get back to sleep or have trouble getting up in the morning you are not alone. Around a third of adults suffer with insomnia in one form or another during their lives. This can have a profound effect on many areas of our lives including the inability to cope, unable to make decisions, irritability, lack of motivation, weight gain and many others. Sleep is important because it is the time when our body repairs itself and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is the phase where we dream which helps with memory and learning.
Our sleep patterns can be disrupted for many reasons like illness, stress, anxiety, depression or some other not so serious causes. We know that anxiety affects sleep and then we become anxious about not sleeping which adds to the problem and we end up in a vicious circle.
The good news is that hypnotherapy can help to restore the sleep cycle by reducing the underlying anxiety, whether it is caused by worries at work, relationships, financial problems or just everyday life in general. We do this by introducing relaxation techniques which can have a beneficial effect and so overcome the insomnia. Depending on the underlying issues the changes can be surprisingly quick.
