What is HypnoBirthing?
Why is it important to stay relaxed?
An anxious state is not conducive to giving birth and can cause labour to stop. When we feel in danger we produce adrenaline and cortisol which are the hormones that trigger the fight or flight response, all very well if we are facing a polar bear but not when we are about to welcome our baby into the world.
When this response is triggered the blood supply is re-routed away from the uterus and placenta to the other major organs and limbs so that we can run or defend ourselves. This means that oxygen to the baby diminishes and contractions slow or stop, this is an inbuilt mechanism which stops us giving birth in dangerous circumstances.
